Food Technology

In your Food lessons, you will learn how to work safely with kitchen equipment used in a domestic kitchen. You will be able to prepare a range of appetising and healthy meals for yourselves or family and you can either eat the food at the end of the lesson or take it home.

All the ingredients will be provided and you will be expected to work safely and hygienically and then clear away and leave the kitchen in a tidy state for the next class.

You will work through different topics and learn new skills so it doesn’t matter if you haven’t done much cooking.

In KS3 the emphasis is on building practical skills and you will be preparing a variety of food products to illustrate the following topics-

- Basic skills

– Use of eggs in cooking

- Staple foods

- packed lunches

- Five a day

- Summer food

Hopefully you will have fun while you are learning new skills!

In KS4 you will work towards a WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering qualification which has been designed to support students who want to learn about this vocational sector and the potential it can offer them for their careers or further study.

The course comprises of two mandatory units:

Unit 1 The Hospitality and Catering Industry  – External Onscreen assessment and Paper based assessment

Unit 2 Hospitality and Catering in Action- Internal practical assessment

Learners  must complete both units.
